DON'T MISS ANNUAL PLANT SALE

IT'S A SPECIAL TIME OF YEAR, WRITES CHRISTINE MOORE

There is something special about this time of year when flowering annuals and perennials begin appearing in nurseries. I love poking around to see what's new, but my favourite place to shop is at a local garden society plant sale, like the Mount Hamilton Horticultural Society's (MHHS) annual sale on Saturday, May 21.

An important reason for supporting a society sale is that all the plants are sourced from local growers, so your support of this local plant sale allows you to acquire plants well suited to our local climate. In addition, your plant sale purchases financially contribute to the MHHS's continued outreach projects including the gardens at Jason's House, a March of Dimes home for adults

with high care needs, for which society volunteers maintain and provide plants.

Society members will be on hand to answer your questions about the plants you choose and help you find the correct ones for your home. Some plants will be donated by members, and you may even find a unique treasure from a personal collection. Among the plants this year will be a variety of herbs, flowering annuals, perennials, hanging baskets and tomato plants.

The Plant Sale will be held at The Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, 61 Mohawk Rd. W., from 9 a.m. to noon.

The MHHS welcomes new members of any experience. Our next general meeting is Friday June 17 at 7:30 p.m., and the guest speaker's topic will be "Raising Butterflies."

Growing Green is a regular feature prepared by the Mount Hamilton Horticultural Society (Online, Blog or Facebook). Christine Moore, the author of this article, is a member of the flower show committee, current MHHS co-president and passionate Hamilton gardener.
