YORK ROAD TOPS LIST OF REGION'S WORST ROADS

YORK ROAD NAMED WORST ROAD IN WESTERN REGION BY CAA

For the second straight year, Guelph has made an ominous list.

Guelph's York Road was named the worst road in the western region by CAA for its annual listing of the worst roads in Ontario. The other top — or perhaps more accurately, bottom — names for the region are both John Street North and South in Stratford, London's Adelaide Street North and Waterloo's Ira Needles Boulevard.

Just as construction and closures have been no stranger to York Road's travellers in recent years, so too is the road's spot on the list of the region's worst roads, having been given the same dubious honour in 2022. Two other entries in last year's list, Speedvale Avenue West and East, fell out of the top/bottom five.

Construction will still be a steady presence on

York this year, with the third phase of the road's reconstruction, stretching between Stevenson Street South and Victoria Road South, beginning this year and lasting until the summer of 2024.

Perhaps a bit of good news is that Guelph did not make the list of the worst roads in all of Ontario, with Hamilton's Barton Street East being given that lamentable recognition.
