ARMSTRONG’S HOME HARDWARE CELEBRATES ITS OFFICIAL BELATED GRAND OPENING!

After opening their doors during the first wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic, and spending nearly half of their first year in business operating under curbside pick-up, Armstrong’s Home Hardware in Binbrook was finally able to host an official Grand Opening Celebration!

The two-day event took place over the weekend starting with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday May 6th. Larry Murphy and his partners, owners of Armstrong’s were joined by Ken Cressman, Retail Sales and Operation Manager – Home Hardware Stores Limited, who presented Armstrong’s Home Hardware with a plaque and officially welcomed Armstrong’s into the Home Hardware Family.

Family is what has made Harvey Armstrong Ltd, now Armstrong’s Home Hardware successful in the community of Binbrook for over 90 years. Started in 1932, Harvey Armstrong’s has been a staple in the community. A Heritage wall was unveiled at the Grand Opening to pay tribute to the roots the business has established over the years. Many memories were shared throughout the evening of Harvey and Irene Armstrong, Les and Lois Murphy and now the third generation of brothers Larry and Doug Murphy with the expansion of the Home Hardware business. “Harvey would be proud!” said Larry Murphy of his grandfather.

Armstrong’s Home Hardware opened in June 2020 as a partnership including the Murphy’s and the leadership team at GrandErie Home Hardware Building Centre, who has been operating in Dunnville since 1996. GrandErie owners Ken Zantingh, Henry DeKlerk, Bert Mulder, Wes Zantingh and Nate Mulder have been excited to be part of the Binbrook community.

The celebration continued on Saturday May 7th for Family Fun Day, which drew a crowd of hundreds during the duration of the day. Plenty of activities were organized for all ages including Mother’s Day themed craft stations for kids, a doormat painting workshop for adults with proceeds going to The Glanbrook Community Services, a Charity BBQ hosted by the Binbrook/ Blackheath Lions, Carnival Treats being sold by the Binbrook

Scouts, and a food drive with all donations going to the Glanbrook Foodbank. Guests were even greeted by three special visitors – Chase, Marshall and Skye from the children’s show

“Paw Patrol.”

“Family Fun Day was designed to entertain the little ones and thank our customers for their support over the past 2 years. We also always want to give back to the community so including the four local charities was a must for the planning committee.” said Leigh Johnston – store manager and planning committee member.

This isn’t the first celebration held at Armstrong’s Home Hardware. Last November they hosted their first Communities that Care Days, an event that will be returning to Armstrong’s Home Hardware this fall.

Even though they’ve been operating for nearly two years now, Armstrong’s Home Hardware is “officially” open to serve the community of Binbrook.
