A public complaint sparked what is now an ongoing investigation by the OPP into what Const. Mary Gagliardi described in an email as "a case of mischief."

On May 9, just before 1 p.m., it was reported that there was an increased police presence at 172 Argyle Street North, Caledonia.

While there was a rumour circulating in the community that a body was found in one of the apartments, Gagliardi said there was "no truth to it at all."

On the What's Up Caledonia Facebook group, a poster using the name Ali

Martin reported, "at one point there were 12 cruisers and a (crime scene unit) van, along with a tent set up in the lot."

Martin also reported that there was "police tape over one of the apartment doors. The apartment and one of the stairwells was also being guarded by police."

The Sachem asked Gagliardi for further details as to which units responded to the scene, why there was a tent set up in the building's rear parking lot, what kind of protective suits officers were wearing, if any arrests had been made in relation to this investigation, whether police were seeking any suspects and if she could provide any further details as to the nature of the mischief.

Gagliardi responded, "cannot comment, investigation ongoing."

The Sachem asked if there were or are any concerns for public safety related to this investigation. Gagliardi responded, "not at this time."

Residents are reminded that if they see any suspicious individuals, vehicles or activities in their communities, they can report it to the OPP's website or non-emergency line at 1888-310-1122.
