PEDESTRIAN PROTECTION
When car meets pedestrian, it is a no-win situation. Cars are a dangerous weapon in the wrong hands. At places where there are high car/pedestrian collisions/near misses, they need to be separated. In other cities, there are underpasses or overpasses for pedestrians to avoid jay walking, and railings have been installed at the edge of the curb in high traffic areas. Lots of people are in a hurry driving and slow or intermittent traffic flow adds to driver's frustration, so synchronizing lights could help along with limiting left turnings against oncoming traffic and the frequency of traffic lights. I am sure there are many other alternatives, as going beyond reporting these incidents needs to be critical in reducing the frequency or collisions or near misses. ADAM SPENCE,
