MEET TED ARNOTT, PC CANDIDATE
NAME: Ted Arnott
RIDING: Wellington-halton Hills
PARTY: Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario
OCCUPATION Career politician
RESIDENCE: Fergus
PAST POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: Arnott has served as Speaker of the House since 2018. In this non-partisan role, he encouraged MPPS to work together across party lines and improve the tone of debates. At the same time, he ensured his constituents' views were heard, and continued to advocate for the community's needs. He was first elected in 1990. He is seeking his ninth term in office.
HOW WOULD YOU GRADE THE PROVINCE'S COVID-19 RESPONSE, AND WHY?
I wouldn't give them a grade. I don't think I'm in the position to do that. However, I believe all members of the legislature have worked hard to respond to COVID-19, the crisis it represented and the challenge the province faces.
It's up to the people on how the government responded or how the legislature handled it.
WHAT ISSUES ARE AT THE FOREFRONT IN WELLINGTON-HALTON HILLS?
With the rising cost of living, essentials such as groceries, fuel and housing are becoming unaffordable for many people. All orders of government must work together to confront inflation and keep Ontario's economy on track. Health care, long-term care, education, the protection of our environment, and support for farm families and agribusiness must remain priorities.
IF ELECTED, WHAT DO YOU PLEDGE TO DO?
I intend to make no promises except my best efforts on behalf of the people of our riding. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it is that the future is uncertain, and each of us must do our part to make our communities stronger, safer, more compassionate and more sustainable.
