MEET DIANE BALLANTYNE, NDP CANDIDATE

NAME: Diane Ballantyne

RIDING: Wellington-halton Hills

PARTY: New Democratic Party (NDP)

OCCUPATION: Teacher at Centre Wellington District High School

RESIDENCE: Fergus

PAST POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: I was elected to Wellington County Council (Ward 6) in 2018 and have served on the following committees: Solid Waste Services, Social Services, Information/heritage/seniors.

I was the NDP candidate in the 2018 provincial election.

HOW WOULD YOU GRADE THE PROVINCE'S COVID-19 RESPONSE, AND WHY?

F. Every step of the way, Doug Ford dragged his feet in providing the help Ontarians needed. Thousands

died in long-term care, children were sent to school without proper ventilation or PPE. Big-box stores were open as small businesses suffered.

WHAT ISSUES ARE AT THE FOREFRONT IN WELLINGTONHALTON HILLS?

Affordability is top of mind in this riding. Both the rising costs of the monthly bills (gas, groceries, hydro etc.) as well as the cost (and lack of) housing.

As a result of the housing crisis, one of the other major issues is sprawl. This riding has some of the best quality farmland in the nation and it is deeply concerning that Ford keeps eroding the greenbelt.

IF ELECTED, WHAT DO YOU PLEDGE TO DO?

I am running in this election because Wellington-halton Hills deserves better.

I believe that better is a good-paying job, investing in education and health care. As MPP, I will work to fix what the Ford government has broken by hiring more nurses, increasing mental health services, and ensuring small businesses are supported. Like all of the NDP caucus, I will be working for the people of our riding, not big business interests.
