There certainly hasn't been a whole lot to laugh about these last two years with a pandemic raging all around us and lockdowns and capacity limits putting the kibosh on all manner of gatherings and live performances.

But people starved for some hilarity have a chance to get a megadose of gutbusting laughter at Camp Cataract in Niagara Falls on May 20, when some of the funniest folks in Niagara gather for a night of comedy. Niagara Falls comedian David Green is releasing his third comedy special album 'Pundemic', and he's invited some of his funniest friends to join the party.

The album is from a live show recording from March at The Exchange Brewery in Niagara-on-theLake.

The May 20 comedy night running from 8-10 p.m. and hosted by Levi Mann will feature performances by Sab Powers, Allie Moore, Rob Dorinzi, Mitch McBeaudry, Jeffrey Stroop and Alicja Mencel. Green will perform a headline act at the end of the show.

For Green, after navigating the restrictions imposed due to COVID-19 meant performing at outdoor venues, drive-in shows, Zoom online shows and other virtual reality platforms, it's a return to the glory days of live, inperson comedy.

"Now standup is back in full swing and it's great to be back doing consistent live audience events," he said.

The native of England describes his brand of comedy as being in part inspired by life experiences.

"(It's) mixed with stories from my childhood and my experiences becoming a new dad during the pandemic," he said. "(It's) a lot of word play, puns and silly humour.

"Inspiration can come from anywhere," said Green. "I just try to train myself to spot the funny things all around me. My comedy doesn't try to take itself too seriously: it just wants you to laugh and be silly and have a good time."

Green said he was approached by Rafik Giurguis from Livestock Niagara about bringing a Garden City Comedy Show to Camp Cataract.

"It worked out fantastic because now I get to have my album release party in my 'hometown'," he said.

"It's great to see how the appetite for comedy seems to have increased coming out of lockdown," said Green. "People are looking for fun things to do and cool shows are popping up all over."

The May 20 show is age 19-plus. Tickets are $10, include a digital copy of 'Pundemic' and are available with all proceeds going to Women's Place of South Niagara.

Camp Cataract is at 4317 Queen St.
