THE VITAMIN STORE CLOSES WITH DAY'S NOTICE

After over a decade of serving customers, The Vitamin Store closed its doors March 17.

"It was a shock to me," said Waterdown store employee Monica Nikopoulos, holistic health and cancer practitioner. "Very unexpected because there's a lot of longstanding customers here that rely on this store."

The last-minute closure announcement popped up on social media by a Facebook user and the post garnered plenty of reaction. Nikopoulos said that the business' lease was up at the end of April; she would have expected the company to give a few weeks notice and have a closing sale.

"A lot of the seniors that come here, they've been coming here over 10 years and it's hard for them to get to our other stores in Dundas and Burlington," she said, noting The Vitamin Store has many locations across the Greater Toronto Area.

When Nikopoulos found out about the closure, she began calling customers to let them know their items were available for pick up and told them to come and get it before the Dundas Street East store closed Friday afternoon.

The shop, located in the Waterdown Shopping Centre, offered clients vitamins, supplements and homeopathy among other items.

A representative from the company's head office in Port Credit didn't immediately return a call for comment March 17.
