Osler first hospital in the world accredited for Butterfly Approach dementia care

Osler recently became the first acute care hospital in the world to implement and receive accreditation for The Butterfly Approach™ in the Acute Care for the Elderly Unit at Brampton Civic Hospital. Developed by Meaningful Care Matters (MCM), a UK-based consultancy, the Butterfly Approach is an emotion-based, person-centred model of care for patients living with dementia. This ground-breaking approach recognizes that the patient's emotional needs are as important as their physical care needs. This included transforming the physical space on the unit, ensuring the environment is appropriate and accessible, as well as warm and engaging to hospital patients with dementia. This accreditation is a testament to the forward-thinking and compassionate care provided at Osler.
