The Ukrainian Canadian Congress' Toronto Branch has opened up a storefront in Etobicoke for newcomers from Ukraine to pick up items needed to start a new life in Canada.

The storefront initiative, called Ukrainian Canadian Parachute, is at 160 North Queen St.

There, "newly displaced" people from Ukraine can find "necessities — from clothing to household goods — required to start a new life in a new country," according to a statement by UCC Toronto

Branch.

The storefront is a part of a string of resettlement

initiatives that has worked with volunteers to provide "immediate necessities and

resources."

"UCC-T has been hosting a Welcome Centre at

Pearson International Airport to help acclimatize the incoming Ukrainian Displaced Persons fleeing Russia's invasion of their country," the organization said.

They credit the support of corporate and individual donations, and the "tireless efforts" of volunteers.

The North Queen Street location is listed as open during specific hours on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Another storefront at 150 Bridgeland Ave. Suite 104 is listed as coming soon, but will be by appointment only.

Donations of new or gently used clean clothing and small kitchen items, in addition to other items, are being accepted at the North Queen Street location.

People can drop off donations on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
