YOUR CHANCE TO NOMINATE AN URBAN HERO

Metroland Toronto, which publishes toronto.com and the Scarborough Mirror, North York Mirror and Etobicoke Guardian, is looking for Urban Heroes to celebrate in 2023.

Created in 2009, the annual awards look to recognize up to 16 community champions in up to eight categories: Arts, Business, Education, Environment, Good Neighbour, Health, Social Issues, and Sports.

Up to eight winners will

be chosen by our judges and up to eight People's Choice winners will be selected by a public vote online. Online voting will begin after our staff have verified the participation of the nominees.

Winners will be announced this fall and presented their awards at the annual awards gala, which will be held in-person in late October.

Readers can nominate local heroes through to July 2 at urbanheroes.ca. Online voting will take place

from July 14 to Aug. 21.

Last year's winners included Amanda Coombs (good neighbour), Christopher Francis (sports), Kristina House (education), Olu Jegede (social issues), Chemi Lhamo (social issues), Lillian McMullin (social issues), Nekpen Obasogie (arts), Terence Phillips (sports), Ian Royer (sports), Robert Jessup-Ramsay (good neighbour), Justin Van Dette (good neighbour), Ethan Waisberg (environment).
