With the launch of a new Kiwanis Club in Newmarket, you can be part of a global effort to make the world a better place for children.

The Kiwanis Club of Toronto Caribbean is hosting an information meeting April 15 at noon at the Newmarket Public Library at 438 Park Ave. to tell the Newmarket and Aurora community about the club and attract volunteers to become the first members.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.

The Toronto Caribbean Club was formed in 2018

and has embarked on many life-changing projects over the past four years, including: establishing a scholarship for students from the Caribbean studying in Canada; partnering with Staples to provide backpacks with supplies to schools in the Greater Toronto Area; delivering food, toiletries and COVID-19 personal protective equipment supplies to older adults during the pandemic; fundraising more than $10,000 for PPE supplies to be sent to Jamaica; shipping more than 1,100 blankets to be used in five Jamaican hospitals; partnering with Global Medic to send hygiene and water purification kits to Haiti to help to combat the outbreak of cholera; and more.

The Newmarket club aims to help local schools, families experiencing food insecurity and other community concerns.
