Do you know someone who goes out of their way to protect the environment?

Why not nominate them as an environmental hero?

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority is seeking nominations for its annual Conservation Awards.

Last year, the authority recognized 29 individuals and groups from across the watershed for a wide range of activities, including tree planting, garbage cleanups, awareness-raising, community events and private property enhancements that attract pollinators and wildlife.

"We know there are environmental heroes out there and that they don't seek recognition but we feel it's important to acknowledge their positive acts that do so much to help protect and enhance the watershed," Katarina Zeppieri, the authority's events and marketing specialist, said.

"These champions are 'agents of change' and an inspiration to others. Collectively, their small actions can and do make a big difference to the health of the watershed."

This year's awards celebration will be the first one since 2019, due to pandemic restrictions.

The nomination process is simple and straightforward. The deadline to submit a nomination is June 3.

Eligibility requirements and the award nomination form are online at Lsrca.on.ca/conservationawards.
