Dundas Lawn Bowling Club members celebrated a $15,600 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant that funded efforts to increase awareness of the club and purchase new lawn bowls, scoreboards and accessibility devices.

Hamilton West—Ancaster—Dundas MPP Sandy Shaw visited the Dundas Driving Park club on Saturday, Sept. 17, to learn more about how the grant was used.

"The Dundas Lawn Bowling Club has been a staple in our community for over 100 years," Shaw said in a press release issued by the club. "They continue to serve as an excellent place to socialize and strengthen community

bonds for people of all ages and abilities in Dundas and Hamilton. I wish them continued success in bringing people together to share in the physical, mental, and social benefits of the sport of lawn bowling."

Club vice president Wayne McHale said the club is used by a variety of community members of varying physical abilities for local, district and provincial lawn bowling events, and Ontario Trillium Foundation funding has allowed the club to increase awareness in the community which has attracted new members.

He said the club is committed to preserving its space in the driving park and ensuring it remains accessible to residents for many years to come.

"The positive impact of the Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be overstated," said club president Bill Baillie.

The Dundas Lawn Bowling Club has operated in the park for 108 years. The clubhouse and bowling green are owned by the City of Hamilton, but maintained and operated by the club.
