A former Clearview Township councillor will be recognized with a bridge named in his honour.

Ed Christie was elected as Ward 1 councillor in 2018, and died the next year after a battle with leukemia.

The bridge will allow the local Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs' chapter, the Blue Mountain Snowdrifters, to cross Batteaux Creek on the 30/31 Sideroad road allowance.

Christie was an avid snowmobiler, and had been working on getting the bridge installed prior to his death.

"Dad was a big proponent of snowmobiles, and helping

them get around the area better," said his son, Michael. "Like everything else in the last couple of years, things have been moving a little slower

than expected, but it's coming to fruition this year, and we're really pleased with it."

At the time of his passing, the family had asked that donations be made to the club to be used for the construction of the bridge.

Ed Christie also served as a councillor in Collingwood for one term, 1994-97, opened Christie's Menswear in Collingwood in 1976, and was a founding member of the Collingwood BIA.

In 2021, he was posthumously given the Jan Hawley Memorial Pinnacle Award, which recognizes individuals who are accomplished leaders and have demonstrated skills in advocacy, innovation and community building in their own organizations, and within the BIA movement at large.

The motion to name the bridge in honour of Christie was put forward by Mayor Doug Measures.

"This has been a wonderful project," Measures said. "This is a beautiful way to acknowledge the great work that Ed Christie did, both as a Clearview councillor, and as a citizen of the Nottawa area."
