WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?
TOWN MAKING A MAJOR INVESTMENT IN FIFTH STREET
The potholes and poor road conditions on Fifth Street in Collingwood could soon be a thing of the past as the municipality is to make a major investment.
The town will be replacing the sanitary sewer and reconstructing the road this year.
JUST THE FACTS:
• The sanitary sewer replacement for Fifth Street was pegged a priority in the 2022 budget due to poor sewer conditions, road conditions and poor drainage.
• The project will replace the sanitary sewer between Oak Street and Spruce Streets and will see the road widened, with a .5 metre curb installed on either side.
• The current 1.5-metre sidewalk will be extended from Walnut Street to Spruce Street, which is where Mountainview Elementary
School is located.
• The town received two tender bids for the project, but they were higher than anticipated.
• The Fifth Street project will be about $3.3 million, which includes a $250,000 contingency.
• At the June 13 Development and Operations Committee meeting, councillors approved a total budget increase of about $690,000. The decision must now be ratified by council.
