Kinga Kay Kriston loved Georgian Bay.

She loved to sail and swim, and often went to Sunset Point to get a glimpse of the full moon.

Hundreds of residents gathered on the shores of Georgian Bay on June 14 to pay respects to Kriston — who was found dead in her Georgian Meadows home four days before.

A memorial was set up on the Inukshuk. Family members and loved ones placed candles.

"She was a fighter," said Lisa Green, a colleague of Kriston's at Sutton Group Realty. "This day, this spot, is where Kay would be."

Green said Kriston had "boundless energy" and a "zest for life," and was always looking to better herself.

She said Kriston loved the outdoors — skiing, golfing, playing tennis and especially taking her dog, Molly, for a walk.

"Anyone that knew her or met her could attest to that," Green said. "She loved her community; she took full advantage of the area."

Kriston joined Sutton Group about five years ago, Green said, and was excited to get started on a new career.

"She was like a kid in a candy store," Green said. "She was well on her way to becoming a very successful realtor."

Acting mayor Keith Hull said he didn't know Kriston well, but has been touched by "special stories" from those who did.

He said he appreciated that the community chose "to be here tonight in this special place, that Collingwood cherishes."

"I have never experienced this. I can't imagine the pain they're going through," Hull said. "I am

so honoured that you collectively come out and show your support and your love for this family that is grieving."

Bam528, a well-known local musician, said he knew Kriston through ski racing and as her gardener. He said they often talked about "skiing and living our best life."

"I'm not really good at grief; I'm really good at happy," he said. "I was like so many of you — didn't even come to terms with it until yesterday."

He said he plans to have a jar when performing to collect donations for My Friend's House, a non-profit agency offering support for abused women and children.

John Collins, 57, has been charged with first-degree murder and was set to appear in court June 21.
