The condo building replacing the old Courtice motel is one step closer to becoming a reality.

The developer has recently hired a project management company for the project.

In early May, Monde Development Group announced it has signed project management company 5 Nine to oversee construction of the new condominium building. The project management company has 30 years of experience, and has completed more than 3,000 units.

The old Pine Ridge Motel and Scoops Ice Cream Shop on Highway 2 in Courtice was demolished in April. After years of planning, the demolition was the first major step to finally begin construction on the condo building.

A modern, six-storey residential building will be built at 1607 Hwy. 2 in Courtice, with 89 condo units and 95 underground parking spaces. The building — called Mondria 1 — plans include a rooftop patio, guest suites, a lobby lounge, a gym, a ballroom, coworking space and a park at the back of the building.

"(Mondria 1) will be changing the face of downtown Courtice with sleek new builds," Majid Hamid, Monde Development Group CEO, said in a written statement.

To create a "downtown" Courtice, Clarington has a Courtice Main Street Community Improvement Plan that encourages intensification along the main roads with higher density residential, commercial and mixed-use development.

In February, the first grant for Courtice Main Street improvements was approved for the condos — offering up to $1 million, tied to specific beyond-code criteria and only given once all construction is finished.
