LONGTIME PIZZA PIZZA OWNERS RETIRE

SAMANTHA LITTLE Samantha Little is a placement student from Humber College.

Kiran and Nanak Malhotra have served their last slice.

The longtime Brant Street Pizza Pizza owners have called it a career after 23 years in the business, which they describe as an enjoyable family affair.

"It was our child and second home," said Kiran. "So much has been put into the business and we miss the routine that we had and the regular customers that would always come in. We had to make sure every customer that left that door was happy and staff would work as a team."

Starting in September 1999, the couple turned Pizza Pizza into a family-run business, with help from children Rabi and Alisha.

"When my parents first opened the store I was only four years old at the time — and could barely see past the front counter," Alisha said.

While working at the business, Rabi expressed his enjoyment of watching children grow into adults and aging along with them.

"People saw me turn from a 14-year-old kid into a 30-year-old man, which helps build lifelong relationships with people in the community," he said

Despite their intention to relax in retirement, the owners say adjusting to their new routine from their busy schedule as business owners will take time.
