LACK OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT AFFORDABLE HOUSING ALL TOO CLEAR

I am amused at the profusion of letters regarding "affordable housing" in the Burlington Post.

It is unfortunate that most of the writers don't seem to have any knowledge of what affordable housing really is. Suggestions to develop

waterfront properties for affordable housing is a clear indicator of the abysmal lack of knowledge on the subject.

The cost of land alone will preclude affordability for those for whom affordable housing is intended. A neighbourhood of Mercedes Benz cars are not a good fit for those on two or more part-time minimum wage jobs to make ends meet. That is the reality.

There are plenty of vacant plots of land, some very large, in the north end of the city in industrial neighbourhoods.

These will serve as ideal locations for affordable housing. Why not try these out?

Also, there are no rich neighbours to protest, no NIMBYS. The only limitation is rezoning of property from industrial to residential takes 10 years. Getting a man on the moon took eight years.

I am 75 years old, with a life expectation of 90. I am hopeful some affordable housing may get built in

my lifetime.
