BURLINGTON HOLIDAY MARKET TO BECOME REGULAR EVENT

It may be a long way from Christmas, but that doesn't mean planning can't get started now.

Council gave unanimous approval for the continuation of the Burlington Holiday Market. The event, which ran for the last two years in December at the lot between Elizabeth and Pearl streets, was originally only given approval to run for two years.

In that time, the market generated significantly increased pedestrian numbers to the downtown core when compared to weekends when the market wasn't operating.

Lisa Kearns, Ward 2 councillor, said the market is an exciting event.

"There have been two years of some successes that were highly marked, and also a strong consideration around how we can use some of our footprints in and around the downtown safely. So, I just want to really extend a sincere thank you," said Kearns.

No major issues have been reported as a result of the market's operation. Some residents have suggested the date for the event be moved to sync up with the annual Santa Claus Parade.

In the past, the market featured local artisan exhibits, concerts, choirs, interactive community art, Advent-style community displays and photo stations.
