ONTARIO VOTES: AN OVERVIEW OF OAKVILLE NORTH-BURLINGTON RIDING

The riding of Oakville North—Burlington was created in 2012 after a federal electoral boundaries redistribution. As of 2016, the riding had a population of almost 130,000 with a median household income of $120,000.

Rhyan Vincent-Smith, founder and CEO of Beyond Unexpected Inc, is the NDP candidate running in his first election.

Kaniz Mouli, management professional, worked as an adviser to two cabinet ministers at Queen's Park and is the Liberal candidate.

Effie Triantafilopoulos (incumbent) is a senior counsel at Vassos LLP with experience in corporate law, international trade, immigration and public policy and is seeking reelection as the Progressive Conservative candidate.

Doru Gordan is running for the New Blue party and is a managing partner for a small Toronto business.

Ali Hosny is running for the Green Party. No other information was provided by the candidate, whose party spokesperson said he would not be participating in our questionnaire.

Ontario Party candidate Jill Service did not respond to our questionnaire by press time.

"I am resilient and tenacious. I am committed to making our province better for everyone in the Oakville North—Burlington riding. I understand deeply how health care, affordable housing and inflation are affecting people in this riding." Rhyan VincentSmith

"Having worked as a management professional in both the private and public sector, I know how to get things done. I also live in the community with my husband and together we are raising our young son. As a working new mom who lives in the community, I understand first-hand many of the challenges faced by families in the community." Kaniz Mouli

"Since elected in 2018, Doug Ford and the PCs have a proven track record of success by delivering on the top priorities of constituents. We helped start construction for over 100,000 new homes last year alone, invested in essential infrastructure such as highways and transit and increased our health system capacity by building over 3,100 hospital beds since the start of the pandemic and more than 1,150 longterm-care beds in our community." Effie Triantafilopoulos

"I believe that I will best represent the riding of Oakville North—Burlington because there is no value more important than liberty. I believe that I am the only one among the candidates who believes in the creation of a sphere in which the individual is free to think, choose, and act without the interference of a social apparatus of coercion and oppression, the state. I know which policies make the state bigger, and I will do whatever in my power to restrain an evergrowing entity which restricts personal autonomy and economic prosperity." Doru Gordan

NDP Rhyan VincentSmith: Health care, affordable housing and inflation.

Liberal Kaniz Mouli: Children's education and future that have been upended by the pandemic, health care, environment and climate change and an affordability crisis.

PC Effie Triantafilopoulos: Lowering taxes and reducing the costs of living in Ontario, affordable housing, highways and transit.

New Blue Doru Gordan: Cost of living and inflation.

The riding was carved out of the former Halton electoral district in 2012 and came into effect in 2015 during the federal election. Provincially, Triantafilopoulos has been the sole MPP representative of the new riding.
