The Oshawa man wanted for the stabbing death of Katie Kainz on March 12 spent 331 days in jail less than two years ago for another stabbing incident.

Adam Odette, 37, is wanted for second-degree murder and attempted murder in a double stabbing that took place March 12 at a home on Simcoe Street in Oshawa.

The Oshawa man was out on probation and restricted from owning weapons following an April 2022 conviction for one count of assault causing bodily harm.

That charge was originally laid in connection with a stabbing that took place on April 9, 2021 in Oshawa. Odette was arrested in May of 2021 and charged with multiple weapons offences.

Odette was convicted of one count of aggravated assault while all others charges were withdrawn by the Crown.

Odette has a long record of charges filed in Oshawa dating back to 2006.

In 2020, Odette was charged after a police chase on Jan. 28. Police had noticed a vehicle with front-end damage and the female driver didn't stop. When the vehicle finally did stop, police say a man

fled into a residential area. Odette was wanted on an outstanding warrant and charged with failing to appear.

In 2016, Odette was charged in a home-invasion style armed robbery on Quebec Street. He was charged with robbery, possession of weapons dangerous, and being unlawfully in a dwelling house.

Back in 2006, when he was 20 years old, Odette was charged in connection with a violent rampage in which a number of young people were assaulted and robbed in south Oshawa.

The incidents took place on the night of June 16 and early morning hours of June 17. Police laid a number of charges against five suspects.

Police reported that the attacks began on the night of June 16 when a group of

teens partying on the beach near Stone and Cedar streets were accosted by several suspects who demanded money and drugs. A 16year-old Oshawa boy sustained serious stab wounds in an ensuing struggle, police reported at the time.

Another attack on the teens took place when they left the beach area, police said. A victim was held at knifepoint during that confrontation, police said.

In a separate attack, two young people were assaulted at a plaza on Wentworth Street West early June 17, police said. According to police, during that assault one young person was bashed repeatedly over the head with a beer bottle.

Odette was among those charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault, and two counts of breach of probation.
