CANDIDATE PROFILES

CANDIDATE NAME:

Laurie Scott

PARTY: Ontario PCs Incumbent MPP

AGE: 60

PAST POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: Incumbent MPP

IF RE-ELECTED, I PLEDGE TO: "Our PC Party will deliver on our plan to build new homes, roads, and highways. We will give you a break and put more money in your pocket, while creating new and better jobs. We will continue to work towards Ontario's economic recovery by adding to the tens of thousands of new jobs that were created under our government. Under the previous Liberal government, the province's health care system was chronically underfunded and understaffed. I will continue to be a strong advocate for local health care, and the PCs will continue to invest and deliver on our plan to stay open - including by saying yes to investing more than $40 billion over the next 10 years in hospital and health care infrastructure supporting more than 50 major hospital projects that would add 3,000 new beds over 10 years."

CANDIDATE NAME:

Tom Regina

PARTY: Green Party of Ontario candidate, Haliburton-Kawartha LakesBrock

AGE: 66 years old RESIDENCE: Haliburton resident since 1990

PAST POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: Over the last couple of years, I have been involved in establishing the federal and provincial Green Party riding associations in HKLB.

IF ELECTED, I WILL: "Continue the work being done by Green leader Mike Schreiner to do politics differently, to put people before politics and work with all stakeholders to consult, listen and come to a consensus where decisions are made. Our current 'First Past the Post' system puts governance in the hands of too few, leaving most people feeling underrepresented and their concerns unheard where decisions are made. Bill 124, effectively wage suppression legislation, affects nurses and other workers and must be repealed.

The green Ontario we want must restore power to Conservation Authorities to protect our water and ecology. We must invest in business opportunities for green entrepreneurs and make Ontario a world leader in clean energy and materials.

Greens will increase health care services with a comprehensive plan providing coordinated treatment options and an emphasis on prevention, to keep us healthy.

LAURIE SCOTT, PC PARTY

In particular, I would reverse Bill PR65 that restricted the involvement of community members on Ross Memorial Hospital's board. I will prioritize the training and hiring of healthcare professionals in rural communities. Under a Liberal government, workers will get 10 days paid sick leave as well as drug, dental and mental health benefits. I will advocate for extended GO Bus service in our region to take advantage of the Liberal 'buck-a-ride, province-wide' public transit policy during this period of soaring gas prices.
