MARIJUANA, TOBACCO, MORE SEIZED AT WARKWORTH INSTITUTION

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) says thanks once again to the vigilance of staff, contraband and unauthorized items were recently seized at Warkworth Institution.

On March 11, a package containing contraband and unauthorized items was seized at the medium-security federal institution, said the CSC, in a recent release.

"The contraband and unauthorized items seized included approximately 219 grams of marijuana, 200 grams of tobacco and rolling papers, as well as cellphones and accessories," said officials.

The CSC said it continues to use a number of tools to prevent drugs and contraband from entering its institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates, and visitors.

The CSC has also set up a telephone tip line for all federal institutions so that it may receive additional information about activities relating to security. These activities may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates, and staff members working at CSC institutions, explained officials.

The toll-free number — 1-866-780-3784 — helps ensure that the information shared is protected and that callers remain anonymous, added officials.
