There's a new doctor in the house for Brighton and Quinte West residents.

Docs by the Bay Physician Recruitment and Retention has announced the recruitment of Dr. Peter Stryde to care for patients in the communities of Brighton and Quinte West.

Stryde has signed medical service agreements with the Municipality of Brighton and the City of Quinte West to practise family medicine out of his Quinte West clinic in the coming weeks.

Originally from Newfoundland and Labrador, Stryde also spent several of his childhood years in Ontario. He completed his undergraduate education and medical training at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

"We are pleased to welcome Dr. Stryde to the Quinte area," said Phil Wild, chair of Docs by the Bay.

"The number of patients he will be caring for will shorten our list of unserved residents and is another step forward in physician recruitment."

Stryde will be building his roster of Quinte West and Brighton residents through Health Care Connect (HCC), and patients will be notified directly from HCC with regards to registration, said Docs by the Bay. All patients will be seen at the Trenton clinic located at 64 Ontario St., unit 1.

Prior to moving back to this area, Stryde practised family medicine for eight years in rural Newfoundland.

"As the years went on, being separated from family in Ontario became more challenging and was further magnified because of the pandemic," Stryde said.

"It was at this time that my wife and I decided to search out a location that was within a reasonable proximity to our family, and that would provide the same working and living conditions that we enjoy. Once we settled upon the

Quinte West region, we began communicating with medical recruiters and colleagues about what the area had to offer," he said. The physician noted he appreciates the support he has received from both recruiters and colleagues during his relocation journey.

"I am particularly happy to be opening a medical clinic in an underserviced region so that I can assist in providing access to care for some of the many unattached patients in the area," Stryde added.

Paula Mason, Docs by the Bay manager of physician recruitment and retention, first began working with Stryde in 2019.

"This is evidence of the fact that the process to recruit a physician to the

community does not happen overnight and can often take several years to complete" Docs by the Bay noted.

"Docs by the Bay extends a special thanks to Dr. Stephen Kaladeen and Mrs. Jean Kaladeen for their assistance in securing Dr. Stryde's entrance to

their family health organization and assisting to locate clinic space for him."

Docs by the Bay is sponsored by Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation, the City of Quinte West and the Municipality of Brighton.

Residents can register with HCC online or by phoning 1-800-445-1822.
