MAYFIELD ROAD WIDENING $1.9M OVER BUDGET

JUST THE FACTS

• Mayfield Road in Brampton is being widened to six lanes from two lanes, spanning from Hurontario Street to Heart Lake Road.

• The funding for this project was approved in the 2021 Region of Peel capital budget.

• An environmental assessment for this road widening was started back in 2021, as regional staff prepared several roads to accommodate population growth and increased traffic.

• There were several companies who bid for the project, however, staff say SNC-Lavalin's $4.4M proposal to complete the project offers the best value and "technical proficiency" read a staff report sent to Peel regional council on March 9.

• The $4.4M cost exceeds the initial 2021 budget for the project by $1.9M. Staff have called for council to allow for the increased funding due to inflation, the impacts of COVID-19 and increased requirements around soil testing.

• Construction is set to start in 2023, and the second phase of the widening.
