BWG INSTALLS 2 INCLUSIVITY CROSSWALKS

THE IDEA WAS PROPOSED AT A COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING ON OCT. 5, 2021

The town of Bradford West Gwillimbury unveiled its first set of inclusivity crosswalks along Holland Street West during Pride Month.

The crosswalks — introduced by BWG'S Healthy Communities Advisory Committee in 2021 as a symbol of support for diversity, inclusion, and acceptance for everyone in the community — were installed north at Moore Street and south at Drury Street.

At the Committee of the Whole meeting on Oct. 5, 2021, the town's transportation manager, Joe Coleman, shared examples of rainbow crosswalk installations from other communities,

used to support and celebrate the LGBTQ2S+ community.

Members of the Healthy Communities Advisory Committee, Anti-racism Advisory Committee, and the library board were in attendance at the unveiling of the inclusivity crosswalks along Holland Street West.

"Our inclusivity crosswalks were installed not

only to celebrate Pride Month but to show our continuous support to our LGBTQ2S+ community throughout the entire year. I am proud to have the crosswalks as a permanent fixture within our local landscape — a constant reminder that Bradford West Gwillimbury is a place where all are welcome, celebrated, and respected," said Mayor Rob Keffer.
