WOMEN'S HOUSE LEAGUE SOCCER KICKING OFF

A new soccer league for women only is getting up and running.

Through the Huntsville Soccer Club, the Women's House League will hold a 10week program starting May 22.

According to organizer Michael Hill, it will be a four-team league and will use the highly popular seven-versus-seven format, with 11 players per team.

"The main reason for all of this is, after girls are finished their minor soccer career, there isn't anywhere for them to play that doesn't include men. This coed element doesn't appeal to every player and I'm attempting to give that player an option that may suite their interests better," explained Hill.

Hill formed a women's team in 2016. "I am an advocate for equality and under the current structure and programs available, I see a void that needs to be filled," Hill explained.

The league will play at Huntsville Conroy Park Turf Field on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. The registration fee is $125, which includes uniforms. Regulation soccer shin pads and soccer shoes are mandatory.

The registration fee also includes optional Sunday coed drop-in games from 10 a.m. to noon throughout the summer months. The women's league registration fees are reduced to $85, based on registration to any other Huntsville Soccer Club adult programs for the 2023 summer season.
