The company charged in connection to the deaths of six young adults last summer has made another appearance in court, albeit briefly.

Condrain Group, a Vaughan-based excavator, was charged with criminal negligence in January, following the Aug. 27, 2022, deaths of Haley Marin, Curtis King, Luke West, Jersey Mitchell, River Wells, and Jason OnoO'Connor,

all of whom were in their early 20s. The charge has not been proven in court. Representatives of Condrain appeared in Barrie court virtually on March 13, only to have the matter put off several weeks so that their legal team can continue going over Crown-provided disclosure documents.

This is the second time the case has been put off, with a first appearance on Feb. 13.

The Barrie Police Service announced it charged

Condrain on Jan. 12, following a lengthy investigation into an incident in the city's south end. Court documents allege the company failed to properly sign and barricade the temporary road closure of McKay Road between Highway 27 and Veterans Drive. The road still remains closed to traffic.

The group of six was believed to be travelling to a nearby casino at about 6 a.m. on Aug. 27, 2022, when it is believed their vehicle entered the closed portion of roadway and fell into a large hole. All six were killed in the crash.

Condrain Group will next appear in Barrie court on April 17.
