Try on your swimming trunks, because the City of Barrie's beaches are being prepared for reopening.
Recreation and culture services manager Steve Lee-Young said the municipality is targeting June 30 as the start date for lifeguards to go on duty at Johnson's and Centennial beaches. Their shifts will run from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily until Aug. 21 (Johnson's) and Sept. 2 (Centennial), weather permitting.
"Signs will be posted at the beaches behind each lifeguard chair to note
when lifeguards are on duty," he said.
The Mobi accessibility mat will be placed on the sand between lifeguard chairs 4 and 5 at Centennial. As well, the personal flotation device (PFD) loan program allows visitors to borrow a life-jacket for free, though a deposit is required.
Also of note, the Splash On Water Parks attraction will return to Centennial
on June 25.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit will also conduct weekly sampling of water quality at Centennial, Johnson's, Minet's Point and Tyndale beaches. Warnings will be posted at designated swimming beaches when bacteria levels exceed government guidelines.
