BARRIE-INNISFIL LIBERAL CANDIDATE JOHN OLTHUIS
OLTHUIS JOINED THE RACE ON MAY 9
CANDIDATE NAME: John Olthuis
RIDING: Barrie-Innisfil PARTY: Ontario Liberal Party
AGE: 62
OCCUPATION: Retired RESIDENCE: Barrie
PAST POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: I ran as a candidate for Ward 10 in the 2018 municipal election. I have always had a strong interest in local, provincial, and federal politics and feel I can bring a fresh perspective to government. My background is in communications, customer service and crisis management.
HOW WOULD YOU GRADE THE
PROVINCE'S COVID-19 RESPONSE AND WHY? I would have to grade the province's COVID-19 response as a C. There appeared to be reluctance to accept the crisis for what it was. The federal government was quick to provide the provinces with funding and tools but the reaction by the province was slow, with confusing communications on the severity. You have to work quickly and decisively to be successful. I feel the Liberal government would have managed the issue accordingly.
IF ELECTED I PLEDGE TO: Constituents of Barrie-Innisfil need a voice and I pledge to be that voice. Seniors, people with disabilities, people on fixed income, young people, new immigrants, independent businesspeople, farmers and others all need to be heard and I feel I can be that voice.
