ELYSE ROBINSON RUNS FOR GREENS IN BSOM
CANDIDATE NAME: Elyse Robinson
RIDING: Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte
PARTY: Green Party of Ontario
AGE: 22 years old
OCCUPATION: I currently work as a host at a restaurant while I study for my LSATs. RESIDES IN: Orr Lake, Elmvale
PAST POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: I was a volunteer committee note taker in the House of Commons for former MP Paul Manly, and have worked on two federal Green Party campaigns. I was also the head of events for the Carleton Greens campus club, where I helped organize one of Ottawa's first major climate strikes.
HOW WOULD YOU GRADE THE PROVINCE'S COVID-19 RESPONSE AND WHY? D-. The government's pandemic response was very inequitable. This is shown most clearly through the discovery that the government provided more rapid tests to private schools than to paramedics, daycares, shelters and jails combined. Same goes for the pre-emptive removal of the mask mandate, which directly puts our immunocompromised and elderly neighbours at risk. Overall, I'm disappointed that the government abandoned the goal of getting rid of COVID-19 all together in favour of living with it.
IF ELECTED, I PLEDGE TO: Create affordable, dignified and climate-resilient communities. I pledge to strengthen existing watershed protections and stop the sprawl. I pledge to expand access to mental health and addiction care under OHIP, double the ODSP rates, and build 100,000 permanently affordable rental units. But most importantly, I pledge to always be honest.
