DOOR-TO-DOOR BUSINESS SURVEY NOW UNDERWAY

CHRIS SIMON chris.simon@simcoe.com

It's your business to participate.

Until August, City of Barrietrained summer students will conduct door-to-door outreach to workplaces located in industrial and commercial zones across the municipality, as part of the second annual Business and Employer Data Survey.

Information collected will be used to update the city's online Business and Employer Data Directory, which includes a listing of current local workplaces, and details about key sectors and employment. "The goal of the survey is to collect business and employer data and create a comprehensive list of the city's workplaces that are operating in the employment and commercial areas," business development officer Mislat Balogun said. "The benefits to the city's workplaces participating in the survey include strengthening the local economy, having a free business listing on the survey website, and gaining access to information on local suppliers."

Home-based businesses are not included in this survey.

Data received via online survey submissions will be verified by city staff for accuracy. Participation is voluntary, and businesses can choose to answer only a portion of the questions. "If necessary, the summer students will gather information through additional online research and over-the-phone interviews," Balogun said.

Outside of publicly accessible details like business names, locations and general contact information, data collected will only be used for municipal analysis purposes and released, where appropriate, in aggregate form.

Collecting this data allows the city to monitor industry trends, levels of employment and sector growth. It also informs infrastructure and servicing decisions, such as transit and road improvements.
