CRAIG CAMPBELL ccampbell@hamiltonnews.com

Hamilton Police Arson Unit is investigating a fire that destroyed a barn at 264 Governor's Rd. on Tuesday, March 7.

Const. Inderjit Bharaj said: "The barn had no electricity or gas running to it, increasing the probability the fire started by human intervention."

Bharaj confirmed the arson unit is involved in an ongoing investigation.

City of Hamilton spokesperson Lauren Vastano said Hamilton Fire Department estimated damages from the March 7 fire to be "around $250,000."

Vastano said the city's building and planning departments are also still investigating to determine if the fire will have any impacts on a development proposal.

The city was still in the process of reviewing building permit applications for 29 townhouses, in six structures, on the property when the fire took place.

Meanwhile, police say three other fires in Dundas on March 13 and 15 are not believed to be related to each other.

Hamilton firefighters and police responded to reports of a fire at Dundas Driving Park at 4:06 p.m. on March 13 — and discovered three female youths burning toilet paper in the women's washroom. There was no damage to the washroom building. Police did not say if there were any charges.Firefighters responded to a dumpster fire outside the Main Street-Governor's Road Tim Hortons at 6:26 a.m. on March 13.

On March 15 at 5:09 a.m. firefighters and police responded to a car fire on Hamilton Conservation Authority property at Old Ancaster and Old Dundas roads.

Const. Bharaj said investigators determined the vehicle was stolen from St. Catharines and the owner wasn't aware it was missing until notified by police.
