CANDIDATE PROFILE: ERIN HORVATH
NAME: Erin Horvath
RIDING: Parry Sound— Muskoka
PARTY: Ontario New Democratic Party
AGE: 46
OCCUPATION: Entrepreneur (The HUB Muskoka), community development expert (New Vision Unlimited), social and environmental justice lead for a national charity.
RESIDENCE: Huntsville
PAST POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: I placed second in the 2018 provincial election. I have worked with First Nations and governance for the past 25 years, as well as with various levels of community and government through the many initiatives I have led. I have a strong history in multistakeholder negotiations related to environmental policy and industry.
HOW WOULD YOU GRADE THE PROVINCE'S COVID-19 RESPONSE AND WHY?:
I would have preferred region-specific responses and investing into our
health-care system rather than underfunding it (by 10 per cent less per capita than other provinces), then shutting down the economy and schools when it couldn't cope. Freezing health-care worker wages (Bill 124) when we're struggling to find staff only makes things worse. I prioritize efforts to ensure that our schools and businesses remain open. I oppose that box stores made record profits while our businesses suffered.
IF ELECTED (RE-ELECTED), I PLEDGE TO...
Use my 25 years of skills as a community development expert and social entrepreneur to lead a riding-wide poverty reduction plan, including working with stakeholders to address the housing crisis, building of a year-round economy, increase quality of life for all, strengthen health care, and attract green manufacturing.
