SCARECROWS ARE POPPING UP EVERYWHERE

LEARN HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN AT MAY 28 WORKSHOP, SAYS REV. FRASER WILLIAMSON

REV. FRASER WILLIAMSON Rev. Fraser Williamson is a columnist with the Almaguin News. His column, Sundridge and South River News, appears weekly. He can be reached at nnpcnalmaguin@gmail.com.

In one of my columns before Christmas, I shared that Sundridge was invaded by gnomes.

The gnomes have gone away to hide, but there is a new invader. Scarecrows are popping up everywhere. I saw one at the post office and there was a little message attached. This message was advertising a scarecrow making workshop.

This workshop is hosted by Sundridge Horticultural Society, and it will be held on Saturday May 28, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sundridge Lion's Club building. They recommend that your own child size old clothes. They will have some clothes on hand to make scarecrows.

One place where you could find some old children's clothes is at the Zion United Church Rummage Sale. It will be held on Friday, May 27 at 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, May 28 at 8 a.m. to noon.

After mastering your scarecrow-making skills, you could create a new larger scarecrow to enter

into the Strong Fair in September.

The scarecrow class and other classes are listed in the special prize book which has just been released. It can be found on their website: strongagriculturalsociety.com or you can request a hard copy by calling 705-384-7110.

There you can see many different pies and jams that local residents are looking to taste the first placed entry. One of the classes that I am sponsoring is pickled eggs, but I have been told I will be sleeping on the sofa the week I consume those!

Speaking of music, the Almaguin Choral Society is back. They will be having a performance sometime in June. Details to follow in the next few weeks.

This coming Saturday, May 21 will be the community wide garage sale. There are many locations

in town and out of town that will be selling treasures.

Here are a few: Main Street: 14, 63, and the Presbyterian Church; 30 Belmont; 216 Brookside; 1 Quirt; and 12 Robertson. There will be many more locations mentioned on the What's Up Sundridge Facebook Page.

I would like to mention that there will be a large three-day sale May 21, 22, 23 at the Michel Century Farm in Lount Township. There is 135 years of history up for sale so it is worth the drive to Wattenwyle.

Have a great week!
