Lent Five: Truth on the Way

John 4: 13-14

“Jesus said to her, ‘Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.”

On the 5th Sunday of Lent, as we move ever closer to Good Friday and Easter, we look at an encounter Jesus had with a woman at a well. Jesus amazed the woman by knowing everything about her and by offering her living water that he promised would last forever. The story of the woman at the well is just another example of Jesus the Messiah who crossed boundaries to offer grace and truth to someone on the margins. He made it known that it was not her past that was important but her future. During her encounter with Jesus, she found acceptance and hope through his gift of living water, a gift that is given to all of us.
