A pair of commercial developments are officially underway in Alliston.

A new commercial unit that will serve as the community's second LCBO store recently started construction at the Walmart Plaza on Highway 89, near Dunham Drive.

The company received approval to move to the construction stage in December after New Tecumseth council approved the site plan agreement with SmartCentres, which owns the plaza. A spokesperson for the LCBO told Simcoe.com

the new store will be completed later this year, or sometime in 2023.

The new building will generate more than $184,000 in development charges.

Construction crews also recently broke ground on another building on the other side of town.

A Burger King restaurant is being built on the west side of Alliston, in front of the Canadian Tire store at 110 Young St.

The fast food restaurant will generate $64,000 in development charges.

A new A&W restaurant also opened recently on Queen Street North in Tottenham, next to Tim Hortons. The building was previously home to Dairy Queen, which closed abruptly in the summer of 2017.
