SEVEN MORE SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGES AGAINST WHITBY RESTAURANT OWNER

Seven more sexual assault charges have been laid against a Whitby restaurant owner.

In late February, Durham Regional Police laid a historical sexual assault charge against James Chatterpaul, the owner of Chatterpaul's restaurant at 3500 Brock St. N. in Whitby.

Police said they began an investigation in January 2023 after a victim had come forward with allegations of sexual nature. The victim, now 32, said they had been touched in an inappropriate manner.

Now, an additional four victims have come forward with allegations of a sexual nature, dating between 2005 and 2019, police said.

Chatterpaul often goes by the name 'Chef Chad' or 'Chad,' and was previously employed at an Oshawa restaurant, police added. Chatterpaul, 55, of Whitby, has been charged with seven counts of sexual assault.He was released on an undertaking.Investigators want to ensure there are no further victims.Anyone with new information that could help investigators is asked to contact D/Cst.
