LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT FUELS DISTRUST

I am writing regarding the story that the lawsuit against former Regional chair Alan Caslin was settled in secret.

The action of Regional Niagara settling its $850,000 lawsuit in the CAO hiring scandal of 2016 is shocking. Unfortunately, it is typical of politics today. Just as the stench of this scandal was dissipating and the present Council was regaining the trust of the voters, this group decides that it is time to fail to do what is right once again!

Those who hate the Region and wish to see it abolished and those who see government as the enemy (eg., the protesters in Ottawa, etc.) have just been handed more ammunition.

Having gone along with the obvious abuse of power at the top level of the Region for years, Regional Council at the time only chose to act when the work of journalists had their backs to the wall. The shameful action of the present Council, settling out of court in secret, only adds salt to the old wounds.

It is as if a cold wind blows through the Regional Council chamber whenever a tough decision must be made. It is looking to find a spine! One can't be found.
