MUSEUM SELLING 100 T-SHIRTS TO MARK TOWN'S CENTENNIAL

PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE WILL GO TO THE MUSEUM, WHICH WAS UNABLE TO FUNDRAISE DURING THE PANDEMIC

Show off your civic pride and celebrate Grimsby's 100th birthday with a limited edition T-shirt from the Grimsby Museum.

The museum is selling 100 T-shirts to celebrate the town's centennial and raise funds to support the museum.

The T-shirts feature a peach, celebrating Grimsby's long association with the stone fruit, which is featured on the Town of Grimsby's crest.

Janet Oakes, museum manager/curator at Grimsby Museum, said the sale is a "fun fundraising initiative" for them, and one that will help bring in revenue after two and a half years of being unable to hold fundraisers due to COVID-19.

Grimsby Museum's T-shirts went on sale on May 1 to coincide with "May is Museum Month," a month-long celebration of museums by the Ontario Museum Association.

The shirts are being made-to-order by Hammered Ink, a local supplier based in Grimsby, and can be purchased through their website.

This year marks 100 years since the amalgamation of the Township of Grimsby and there are many events taking place throughout the town.

Events include a special Canada Day celebration hosted by Grimsby Museum, featuring an Indigenous creator space.

Oakes said that museum staff are "trying our best to get back out into the community now that we can."

Aside from the Grimsby Museum's events, a Spring Swing is also being held at Woolverton Hall on May 14, with all proceeds going to the Grimsby Historical Society.

And on Sept. 23, Grimsby's centennial birthday party will be held at Southward Park, featuring live music, fireworks and food.
