SUPERHERO READING CORNER PROVING POPULAR

RYAN WALDRON Ryan Waldron is the deputy chief librarian at the Grimsby Public Library.

Over the last few months we've noticed more daily visits here at the library, and it's great to see the building becoming a more vibrant and busy place again. Check out our new Superhero Reading Corner full of great comics and graphics novels for kids. If you haven't been to the library in a while or if you are new to Grimsby, please stop by to renew your membership or get a new membership. You can rest easy about borrowing books knowing that we no longer charge late fees.

We are excited to be offering a wide variety of in person programs once again. While many of our programs are drop-in, some will require registration. To register for a program, please visit the library calendar located on our website under the 'Programs and Events' tab. May is definitely the month to start think about growing plants, and we have four programs on that theme:

As part of our Grimsby Grows Seed Library project, starting May 24 the library is giving away free heirloom tomato seedlings as long as supplies last (three per household). Pick yours up in the library from our giveaway table, or ask when you are doing curbside pickup. You'll find interesting heirloom/open pollinated varieties such as

Speckled Roman, Yellow Currant, Black Cherry, Purple Bumblebee, Green Giant, or White Queen. Don't forget to stop by our seed library to pick out some seeds to start in your vegetable garden this summer.

The Art of Bonsai re-creates the effects of weather, time, care and plant growth in miniature. On Thursday, May 19 at 7 p.m., join Mohawk College Bonsai Instructor Leon Martin for a presentation about this 2,000-year-old art form that is now popular around the world. You are invited to a presentation with visuals and live Bonsai. Guests are invited to bring their own bonsai for suggestions or discussion. This in person program requires registration.
